Walk to the Park!

Friday is our Walk to the Park field trip. Please make sure to remind your student to wear a Coles Ferry shirt and comfortable shoes. Also if your child needs sunscreen or bug spray please take care of that before school.  We will be leaving to go to the park at 11:30 and return around 2:30.

Thanks!!!

Thanks to all my students for their hard work this week during TCAP!  We “blasted” through TCAP so on Friday the students created rockets out of film canister and shot them off outside!  We learned about chemical changes and had a “blast” with the experiment.

Thanks to all the parents for having students to school on time, well-rested, and ready to test!!  I couldn’t teach your children without your help!  Also, a huge thanks to the parents who sent in breakfast, snacks, and drinks!

TCAP Fun!!!

To get everyone pumped up and excited about TCAP all third graders are going to have special dress-up days on each day of TCAP.  Please allow your child to dress up on the appropriate day!!!

Friday: Hat Day because we need to put our ‘Thinking Caps” on and get ready for TCAP!

Monday: Wear Red because we are “REDy” for TCAP!

Tuesday: Orange and White because it’s “TCAP Time in Tennessee!”

Wednesday: Camouflage day so we “HUNT” out the right answers on TCAP! (hats that are worn will be taken off during testing)

Thursday: Hawaiian Day because we are “SURFING” through TCAP! (Lei’s, sunglasses, and hats will be put away during testing)

Friday: Superhero Day because we did a “SUPER” job on TCAP!

Also during the week of TCAP, I will allow students to bring pillows and blankets so that they are comfortable while taking the test.  I will also allow students to take off their shoes during the test.  I want all my students to feel relaxed and calm!!

TCAP Boot Camp!

Parents-

On Tuesday, April 17th, from 6-7pm in the CFE Library, we will be hosting TCAP Boot Camp-an informative opportunity for you and your child to learn about TCAP and what it is all about!  We will discuss skills and standards, testing strategies, how to prepare, and you’ll even get to take a few practice tests!  I hope to see all of my students and parents there!!!

Just some good information!

Bullying is a problem that has been around for years.  I remember being teased as a child!  I would like to share some strategies that I was given to help children being teased.

*Teach the child to speak for themselves.

*Practice appropriate language.

*Role-play the ignoring of teasing and ways to stay calm and unresponsive to the teasing.

* Encourage the use of humor to catch the teaser off guard.

*Coach students to use positive self-talk.

* Suggest staying with friends for support and encourage all students to be supportive.

* Discourage aggression or timidity as a response to teasing and counsel students to stand their ground.

I also have a list of ways to help a student who is teasing:

*Give positive attention as often as possible and celebrate successes.

*Teach positive social skills and role-play peer interactions.

* Model positive interactions.

*Offer alternatives for teasing for attention.

*Let some peer pressure help to shape positive behavior.

Book Order and TCAP snacks

Today I will be sending home a book order.  If you would like to order, please send a check made out to Scholastic and the order by April 20th.

Also,  we are in need of breakfast and snacks for the week of TCAP.  Some of you have already signed up to bring items and I will send a note home to you telling you what items to bring.  THANKS so much to those who have signed up!

Please send the sign up sheet back if you have not already.

I hope you all had a GREAT Easter weekend!  It is now time to get back to school and get ready for TCAP.

Parents,

Your child will be bringing home a letter about TCAP Boot Camp on April 17 from 6-7.  Please sign and return if you plan to attend.  I hope to see all of you there learning about TCAP and how to have the best test experience!

Also, please remember to return you Spring picture proofs, even if you do not order.

Thanks!!! Have a great week!!!
