Parental Involvement Plan
Improving student performance is a community-wide effort that directly involves teachers, administrators, parents, families, and the community.  At Coles Ferry, we believe that parental involvement is a necessity as we strive to develop the total child. Research verifies that active parental involvement results in improved student academic achievement and school performance. We are committed to involving parents in shared decision-making and encouraging parents to become active participants in their child’s educational process.

Parents, or an adequate representation of parents, are involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in planning, review, and improvement of the school parental involvement plan and joint development of the school-wide program (TSIPP).

Parents are notified of the parent involvement plan in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, provided in a language the parents can understand.

The parent involvement plan is made available to the local community and updated periodically to meet the changing needs of the parents and school.

Coles Ferry Vision Statement
By maximizing the efforts of home, school, and community, students will possess the skills and desire to continue learning, embrace diversity, and uphold values as they become productive global citizens.

Coles Ferry provides the following opportunities for parents and families to be involved and informed in their child’s education:

Annual Title I Meeting
The annual Title I meeting informs parents and family members of the school’s participation with Title I and other Title programs. During the meeting, the requirements of the Title I program are explained to the parents verbally and in written form.  Parents are given a Title I brochure which explains the Title I program.  Parents are also briefed on their right to be involved in the school and are encouraged to do so through various suggested activities.

Parental Involvement Activities
A variety of activities are scheduled throughout the school year.  These activities are designed to further enhance the importance of parents being both engaged and knowledgeable about their child’s school experience.

Parent/Teacher Communication
Parents are notified of these and other opportunities through school and class newsletters, invitations, e-mails, school website, automated phone calls, postings on the school marquee, and student agenda books.. Also, student  progress is communicated through mid-nine-week progress reports and report cards.

The school provides, to the extent practicable, full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences allow another way for parents and teacher to form an important partnership to share information and concerns as well as creating new learning experiences for the students.  Parents are strongly encouraged to visit the school, communicate with staff, and schedule additional conferences as needed.

The school provides parents a description and explanation of the curriculum the school uses, forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

Assistance is provided to parents in understanding topics such as the Common Core Curriculum, student academic achievement standards, state and local academic assessments, how to monitor a child’s progress and work with educators to improve student achievement.

Parent/Teacher/Student Compact
The responsibilities of the school, parents, and students as they relate to increasing student learning and achievement are identified in our Parent/Teacher/Student Compact.  The compacts are reviewed and signed during our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Parent Teacher Organization
The Coles Ferry PTO meets to plan fundraisers, discuss concerns, plan upcoming events, and solicit community involvement.   Feel free to check out the PTO link on our Coles Ferry website.

Volunteering
Coles Ferry welcomes parent/family participation in the education of their children. All parents are encouraged to become active in our school.  Donations of time and talents from parents are much needed.  Parent volunteers assist with reading programs, book fairs, reading to classes, classroom projects and/or programs, field trips, and in many more beneficial ways.

The school provides parents with timely information about school programs under NCLB section 1118.

A process is in place to submit parent comments on the school-wide program (TSIPP) if it is not satisfactory to the parents when the school makes the plan available to the district/LEA.

The school ensures that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to parents in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand. The school will provide other reasonable support for parent involvement activities per parent request.
